It’s story publication day!

My short story, “File 29520: Notes from Immediate Aftermath of Attack by New Villain, ‘The Daemon’,” is up at Betwixt right now. [1]

It’s a superhero story, and if you’re one of my Facebook peeps or follow me on Tumblr, it’s the one that the evil twin and the lovely husband basically dared me to write.  And by “dare” I mean “texted me a joke” and “said X idea would be hilarious,” respectively, without actually daring me to do it at all.  Enabling, though.  That happened in the textbook definition.

At one point, I printed it out, cut it up with scissors, and arranged it on a table to figure out the structure, before taping it back together to do edits.  The glamour of the creative life, my friends.

Of further note is that I have an authorial bucket list, and this issue of Betwixt allows me to check off  one of the items on it:  I’m sharing a table of contents with the evil twin!

Jason Kimble is channeling his inner Ursula K. LeGuin with “Taste of Birdsong,”  a story I really dug–it has a lovely, lush, delicate feel to it that is one of Jason’s secret weapons.

So please click over to Betwixt and check out both stories; they are available for free on the website, and also should be up for purchase later here if you’d like to own the issue.

I also want to say … this is the last issue of Betwixt before it goes on an indefinite hiatus, and so I’m both pleased to have my story here, because it’s kind of an honor to appear in the last issue, and sad, because its been a really great venue for stories.  I certainly hope it comes back, and please do check out the archives, which will still remain open for reading.

I read (you can check out my Goodreads if you want; it's linked on my blog). I write (I’ve been published in Cicada, On Spec, Strange Horizons, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Betwixt, Metaphorosis, Gallery of Curiosities, The Cassandra Project; the stuff that’s available online is linked on my blog). I plan for the inevitable zombie apocalypse and welcome the coming of the gorilla revolution. Or the anarchist rabbits. Whichever happens first. (I also blame my husband for basically everything.)
