Poetry! Stick Figures! Supporting the ACLU!

Okay, so I’m part of The Cassandra Project over on Tumblr, and said project is running a challenge called “every single day.”  For the month of January, participants do something–draw, write, call congresspeople, run, whatever–and we post our progress.  We also set up a CrowdRise account and ask people to donate to a cause.

As you may be aware, because I know my own artistic limits, I am drawing stick figures who will be reciting poetry.  Some of that poetry will be mine.  (Most of it, actually.)  Some of it will be, like, Shakespeare when the little stick person seems Shakespearean rather than Priceian.  I’m sure there will be a point when there’s no stick figure and just a poem, but stick figures are definitely a theme.  There may also be a point where I resort to taking sentences from the novel and breaking them down into poetical-looking lines.   I have a fourth grader with two trifold-school projects due in January; believe me, there will be shortcuts used.  Hell, I’ve started stockpiling the stick figures already.

The daily posts will be on Tumblr; I want to also post them daily here and on FB.  I’m reasonably sure I can manage that.  This is super low-budget, by the way: me and a notebook and my phone camera.

Any money I raise is going to the ACLU.

So:  this is the link to my CrowdRise page.  Please do donate if you can; if not, signal boosting and moral support are also much appreciated.  I’m aiming for $100, which seems a modest enough goal to try and reach.  I’m also not above incentivizing–if we hit, say, $50, perhaps I can add a bonus Teachout vignette to the blog?  If I hit my goal of $100, maybe I’ll ask the boyo if I can post the poem he ‘wrote’ in pre-K?  For any $20 donation you can ask me anything about my stories?  I’m willing to consider  incentive requests, too.

Anyway.  Look for stick figures and poetry from me every day in January (I am a trifle nervous and also excited)!

I read (you can check out my Goodreads if you want; it's linked on my blog). I write (I’ve been published in Cicada, On Spec, Strange Horizons, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Betwixt, Metaphorosis, Gallery of Curiosities, The Cassandra Project; the stuff that’s available online is linked on my blog). I plan for the inevitable zombie apocalypse and welcome the coming of the gorilla revolution. Or the anarchist rabbits. Whichever happens first. (I also blame my husband for basically everything.)
